[Hong Kong, 24 February 2010 ] The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) today announced that the 8th HAF, which will be held from 22th to 24th March, 2010, will present a new award dedicated to the memory of the late Wouter BARENDRECHT, the co-founder of the HAF.

The Wouter Barendrecht Award commemorates BARENDRECHT’s contribution to both the HAF and Asian cinema. An internationally renowned film producer and founder of Fortissimo Films, BARENDRECHT was credited with helping a generation of Asian filmmakers such as WONG Kar-wai and IWAI Shunji to reach a global audience.

This new award, worth HK$50,000, will be funded by the Wouter Barendrecht Film Foundation and the Film Development Fund, and will go towards promoting nascent filmmaking talents in Asia. It is open to the HAF projects led by directors who have made less than three films, with the winner selected by the Foundation’s representatives.

New award recognises Asian film costume design talent

(Hong Kong, 22nd February, 2010) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) today announced that renowned fashion icon Donatella VERSACE will be presenting the Best Costume Designer Award at the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA). The award is a new addition to the AFA this year to recognise the work of Asian costume designers in cinema.

Donatella VERSACE, Vice President and Creative Director of the Versace Group, is a giant in the fashion industry. Respected worldwide as an authority in design, she was made Honorary Chairwoman for London’s Fashion Fringe in 2008 and 2009, an industry event to uncover upcoming designer talent.

37 Asian Films Vie in this Year's Competition

(Hong Kong, 20th January, 2010) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) announced today the nominees in the 14 categories of the 4th annual Asian Film Awards (AFA) Presentation Ceremony, which will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22nd March, 2010. The 4th AFA will be the Opening Gala of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong and will coincide with two other flagship events of the HKIFFS: the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), and the 8th Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF).

Organized by the HKIFFS and sponsored by the Film Development Fund and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the AFA celebrates excellence in Asian cinema produced in 2009. Outstanding films and filmmakers across Asia will compete in 14 categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Newcomer, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenwriter, Best Cinematographer, Best Production Designer, Best Composer, Best Editor, Best Visual Effects, plus a new category, Best Costume Designer.

[Hong Kong, 13 January 2010] The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society has announced today that internationally renowned actor Tony LEUNG Ka-fai will undertake the role of Jury President for the 4th Asian Film Awards.

With an illustrious career spanning over 25 years in the film industry, the Hong Kong native is best known on the international stage for his captivating performances in Jean-Jacque Annaud’s The Lover, and in the Taiwanese horror feature Double Vision.  Leung has also starred in numerous popular Chinese movies, such as The Myth, Everlasting Regret, Election, and most recently, the action drama Bodyguards and Assassins.

“Tony Leung is an inspiration for all of us working in Asian cinema, and we are deeply honoured to have him as our Jury President this year,” says SHAW Soo Wei, Executive Director of the HKIFFS. “Delivering performances with an impressive range of skill, wit, charm and passion, Tony possesses the qualities we look for in every AFA-nominated film.”

[January 5, Hong Kong] The 8th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), which will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 22 to 24, 2010, announced today a list of 25 selected outstanding film projects from across Asia and beyond.

HAF is organized by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS), committed to promoting the development of the Asian film industry by providing an important funding platform for film projects. In the last seven years, it has attracted renowned directors, producers, filmmakers and emerging filmmakers in Asia to participate, allowing them to gain support from investors from all parts of world. The selected film projects for this year’s HAF come from 17 territories in Asia and other parts of the world, including the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Macao, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
